Born in Montreal, Philip studied visual arts at Fanshawe College and the Ontario College of Art and Design. After a career as a photographer and later as an art director, Philip turned his skillful eye to portrait painting. Philip’s figurative work is influenced by Ingres’ discreet distortions of the human form and the complexities of Lucian Freud, resulting in images that are rich and intriguing. His portraits hang in private collections in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. Since moving to Prince Edward County, Philip’s focus has been transformed by The County’s bucolic beauty. His landscapes are vibrant, almost electric, yet calm.
