Thelma is an artist as well as a china painter who also creates beautiful origami cards. Born in British Guiana, South America she began her studies in art at a very early age, and is the holder of certificates from the Royal College of Arts, London, England. When she came to Canada in 1954 she studied fine art at St George Williams University and McGill University. She retired from teaching art in 1983 and moved to Ottawa and studied both watercolour and china painting. Thelma had a booth at the Byward Market in Ottawa for 6 years. Thelma and her husband also served the Canadian Armed forces – they now currently live in Wellington.
At the age of 93, Thelma is our ‘oldest’ artist, but one who is still very young at heart. The Local Store has a few of her original watercolours and also her original beautiful origami cards which she still creates!
