Lynne Grist
Local author Lynne Grist has published the first two books of a historical fantasy series for children aged 8 to 11 called THE KEY TO TIME. A sister and brother, Bella and Joey Wilkins, find a magic key that takes them back in time to hunt for treasure in Prince Edward County. They have many exciting adventures as they encounter Indigenous people, early settlers, and legendary creatures from the early days of the County.
Chris Fanning, owner of the Picton Gazette, has given both stories glowing reviews. He had this to say about Book One, “Treasure at Sandbanks”: “I read this book with two eight-year-old boys, aloud, at bedtime, a few chapters a night. The cliffhangers at the end of each chapter had them clamouring for more. Bright-eyed, they thought through what they’d read, postulating ideas, and triumphing with an “I knew it!” when they’d got the clues right. Time-travel doesn’t faze an eight-year-old: of course it’s 1758. Or 1811. Or now.”
Both books are illustrated by County artists, Teresa Westervelt and Thomas Harrison.
