David Morrish

David Morrish—M.F.A. (1985) and BFA (1981), a retired Full Professor of Art, taught photography in the BFA-VA program from 1989 until 2016 at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is co-author with Marlene MacCallum of Copper Plate Photogravure, Focal Press, 2003. Morrish has exhibited copper-plate photogravure intaglio prints internationally since 1996, along with limited-edition artist books under his DeadCat Press imprint. His research explores mortality and museum archives through immersive installations like The Lyric Cranium, which has sparked ongoing works on paper and mixed media.

In 2016, Morrish set up a fully equipped woodworking shop and in 2021 began to turn wooden bowls and hollow forms on his large wood lathe. Woodturning is but one focus of his creative practice.

Morrish lives in Prince Edward County, Ontario, where with his wife, Marlene, they set up their artists’ studio and print shop, Residue Studio.
