Ilona Anderson

“I started painting about 15 years ago and think of my paintings as work in progress.   My inspiration comes from day to day routines and I hope to provide glimpses on human nature.  There is no message, my paintings simply represent moments in time as I try to capture the light, and the motion of childhood up to old age – the whole gamut of human emotions really.  I hope my work speaks for itself.

While I am primarily drawn to figurative paintings, I have lately turned my attention to experimenting with more colour.  I find that when painting skies I can put as  much intensity and emotions into my work as I do when painting portraits or figures.  I am very excited about this new phase and look forward to further exploring the relationship between movement and colour.

My preferred medium is acrylic and I paint on canvass and hard board often heavily textured with Gesso.

I am largely self taught but have in recent years studied with Kato Wake who has inspired and challenged me along the way.  I am influenced by Mary Cassatt and Lenn Gibbs for their figurative paintings.  I admire Gauguin for his simplicity of line and colour and I love Andrew Wyeth’s work.”
