Phil Dandurand
Born in Montreal, Philip studied visual arts at Fanshawe College and OCAD. After an early career as a photographer in Toronto, and later as a graphic designer and art director, he turned his skillful eye to portrait painting. Philip’s early portraiture earned him recognition from the Portrait Society of Canada, followed by several successful shows and awards. Numerous portrait commissions ensued, allowing him to move to the County and dedicate himself to his passion.
Artist Statement: “My daughters were my inspiration for my first portrait paintings. I had a desire to capture that fleeting moment of youth and beauty in a more expressive medium than photography. While I sometimes draw inspiration from the bucolic landscapes of the County, I prefer to focus on the human form employing traditional techniques to express the tonal nuances of flesh and anatomy, leaving the background uncluttered. Often the figure is immersed in abstraction giving the work a more contemporary feel that explores the division between the contrasting genres.”
