Ilona Anderson

I started painting about 10 years ago and think of my paintings as work in progress.   My inspiration comes from day to day routines and I hope to provide glimpses on human nature.  There is no message, my paintings simply represent moments in time as I try to capture the light, and the motion of childhood up to old age – the whole gamut of human emotions really.  I hope my work speaks for itself.

While I am primarily drawn to figurative paintings, I have lately turned my attention to experimenting with more colour.  I find that when painting skies I can put as much intensity and emotions into my work as I do when painting portraits or figures.  I am very excited about this new phase and look forward to further exploring the relationship between movement and colour. My preferred medium is acrylic on canvass or hard board often heavily textured with gesso. I am largely self taught but have in recent years studied with Kato Wake who has inspired and challenged me along the way.  I am influenced by Mary Cassatt and Len Gibbs for their figurative paintings.  I admire Gauguin for his simplicity of line and colour and I love Andrew Wyeth’s work.
