S.M Hurley – Shelagh Mathers

S.M. Hurley is the pen name of Shelagh Mathers, a Prince Edward County lawyer, former part-time Assistant Crown Attorney, and resident of the County since the late 80s.

The first of a series, Blackwater Bluff (titled Hiding during its early stages) features Augie de Graaf, a  Prince Edward Crown Attorney in an insistent cast of characters, all of whom have been clamouring for release from the author’s imagination for more than a decade.

In her second novel The Sevens, published in 2021, Augie de Graaf is still grappling with the emotional aftermath of the events of eight months ago. Her confidence shaken, Augie is alone with her inner turmoil. When her colleagues focus on a vulnerable refugee, a young scientist at the Vanguard Innovation Institute, as the prime suspect in the cold-blooded murder of his co-worker, Augie wants to trust the instincts telling her the investigation is going in the wrong direction, but can she? Then it’s déjà vu in the worst way, as Augie has to confront a killer…again.
