Goblets are defined here as cups similar to beakers, but with curved sides and a small stem or foot. Examples with decorated sides were popular in France and Switzerland around 1750. British goblets however are usually plain and are predominantly nineteenth century. Wine cups were used from an early period for drinking wine or “strong” ale. They resemble chalices and are often mistaken for them except they are smaller.
Large Pewter Goblet / Chalice – hand forged
$225.00
Superb probable 18th century Scottish pewter communion cup or chalice, with slightly flared tops, baluster stems with wedding band midway, and stepped bases, possibly made from a dome-lid mould. Cannot verify for sure, but are handforged. As found condition – we have not tried to clean them and have left them as original. 10 inches in height.
Well made, and of heavy construction but no marks.
