Miguel Pineda in the arts is a 20th century Mexican enamelist and artist born in 1940, known for creating enamel on copper, functional, and decorative art pieces featuring Mayan, Aztec, and Catholic imagery. Pineda studied under American-born artist Maggie Howe who introduced enameling techniques to Mexico, studying with her from 1958 to 1960.He is renowned for his mastery of enamel on copper, creating, trays, vases, jewelry, and plaques. His designs frequently draw from Mayan and Aztec codices (pre-Hispanic art), Mexican flora/fauna, and religious iconography. He was commissioned by the Catholic Church to create 36 enamel panels for the doors of the Shrine of the Virgen de Guadalupe in Mexico City. He also created a 2 ft. by 3 ft. image of the Virgin of Guadalupe for the chapel of San Lorenzo in the Vatican.
